The Calculator will work out the Total Dynamic Head & NPSH(a) of a system and assist in drawing system curves. View our Pump Training pages for help with pump terms.

For full instructions on using the Friction Loss Calculator, and System Curve Generator, visit our Tutorial page.

This is a brief overview of the Tutorial:
  1. Find Pipe Data for entry into "C"
  2. If you have internet Explorer 4+ you will find changing information in this area as you pass the mouse over various text in the calculator.
  3. Enter data in these boxes. Hover over any of box descriptions (ie:"Flow L/s") for information and tips shown in the area "B".
  4. Where the results are shown after clicking "CALCULATE". Record the results.
  5. The Calculate button and the Draw System Curve buttons. Click the "DRAW SYSTEM CURVE" button after Calculating.
  6. This data has to be tranferred into area "G", look carefully and only change the differences. The greyed out sections don't need to be transferred to the boxes in the generator.
  7. This is the data input area for the Java Applet that generates the online system curve.
  8. After entering the data into "G", click the green "Plot It!" button.
  9. After clicking the "Plot It!" button, click the "VIEW CURVE" button to display the completed curve. TO PRINT: Press "print screen" key & paste into Paint or other graphics program, then print from there.

On the left hand side are 2 buttons; use the "RE-CALCULATE" button to move back up to the Calculator area & the "REDRAW CURVE" button to return to the system curve generator data entry area.

There are buttons to move around all areas. Clicking the "EXIT" button or pressing [alt]F4 at any time will close the window and return you to the Doyle Pump & Engineering website.
